Qatar has always been committed to seeing the unity and stability of Sudan maintained.
Last year, the country affirmed its full support to ensure Sudan’s stability and sovereignty and backed the formation of the new Sudanese government.
Qatar’s strong support to Sudan is also reflected in the several occasions where it has extended financial, medical, and other forms of humanitarian assistance to the brotherly Sudanese people, over the years.
Now, Qatar has once again played a significant role in supporting peace efforts in Sudan.
Yesterday, Qatar participated in the final signing ceremony of the peace agreement between the transitional government of the Republic of Sudan and the Sudanese armed movements.
The ceremony, which was held in the capital of South Sudan, Juba, saw the participation of a Qatari delegation, led by His Excellency Qatar’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi.

HE Al Muraikhi passed on His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s greetings and the good wishes of the Qatari government and the people to the mediating state and the signatories of the peace agreement.
While speaking on Qatar’s behalf, HE the Minister said this represented a unique moment in history when everyone has devoted to themselves to peace, and rejected war, and responded to the voice of reason.
This moment is particularly significant for many who had been displaced by war and had become refugees and displaced persons.
It brings back the hope for them to return to the nation that awaits peace, development, reconstruction, and prosperity, the Minister noted.
He expressed Qatar's thanks to the Republic of South Sudan, and HE the President, Lieutenant General Salva Kiir Mayardit, for sponsoring these negotiations, and to negotiation delegations and the Mediation Committee for their patience and wisdom, which led to this moment.
HE the Minister underlined that Qatar was not far from the peace issue in Sudan, as it had sponsored a similar experience represented in Darfur Peace Agreement. The negotiation was carried out in May 2011 between the government of Sudan and the armed movement.
