Qatar Philharmonic to present ‘Brahms Reimagined’ at Katara Opera House

The Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, announced the organization of a new concert on Saturday, titled "Brahms with a New Creation", at the Katara Cultural Village Opera House, in cooperation with Georgetown University in Qatar.

The concert will feature a collection of the most prominent musical compositions by German composer Johannes Brahms, with a renewed artistic vision, including composer Arnold Schoenberg's orchestral arrangement of the Brahms Piano Quartet in the Minor Scale, as well as the Violin Concerto in the Grand Scale of Ree, in an evening that combines musical originality with innovative orchestral arrangements.

The concert will be led by Maestro Wilson Ng, newly appointed Associate Conductor of the London Philharmonic, with the participation of international violinist Esther Yeo, the youngest prize winner in the history of the Queen Elizabeth Competition, performing Brahms' beloved Violin Concerto on the Grand Scale of Ree.

The concert is part of the ongoing collaboration between the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra and Georgetown University in Qatar, reflecting the two institutions' keenness to promote artistic and cultural exchange, support educational and creative initiatives, and strengthen the role of music in building bridges of communication and understanding between cultures.

The cooperation also embodies the commitment of the two sides to promote cultural diplomacy and international dialogue, by employing the arts, education and scientific research to support cultural interaction and exchange of experiences, in a way that contributes to enhancing communication between societies.

Kurt Meister, Executive Director of the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra, said that the concert embodies the ability of the arts to build meaningful connections that transcend cultural boundaries and disciplines, and that through collaboration with Georgetown University in Qatar, artistic excellence and the role played by cultural institutions in promoting dialogue, understanding and global citizenship are celebrated.

Established in 2007, the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra presents Western and Arab musicians inside and outside Qatar, seeking to inspire generations, encourage musical creativity and promote cross-cultural rapprochement.

Established in 2005 in collaboration with Qatar Foundation, GU-Q continues its academic and cultural role through its educational programs and community initiatives, including the Bachelor of Science in International Affairs and the Artist-in-Residence Program, which contribute to intellectual and cultural exchange.
