Since the start of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, Qatar has stressed the need for global solidarity to defeat the crisis facing the world.
The country continued leading by example as it came to the support of several nations by providing them urgent medical aid to tackle the virus.
On a number of occasions, Qatar has emphasized the need for the international community to come together and unify efforts to combat this infectious disease.
To facilitate multilateral cooperation with a view to effectively respond to COVID-19, Qatar recently joined hands with four other nations including Canada, Denmark, South Korea, and Sierra Leone to launch the Group of Friends of Solidarity for Global Health Security.
Building on its earlier efforts, Qatar yesterday pledged $10 million to the World Health Organization (WHO).
The contribution will support WHO's efforts to develop testing equipment, treatment, and vaccine for COVID-19.

His Excellency the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohamed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani announced Qatar's support during a COVID-19 virtual commitments campaign by Global Citizen, a non-profit organization.
HE the Minister said Qatar was proud to support the 'Global Goal: Unite for Our Future' campaign.
While making the announcement, HE Sheikh Mohamed said the COVID-19 pandemic has not only been a challenge for healthcare systems, educational systems, and economies across the globe, but it has also been a test for human principles and the ability to quickly come to the support of those affected across borders.
He further mentioned that there is a need for ramping up international support and political commitment to facilitate access to COVID-19 testing, treatments and vaccines for everyone.
Earlier this month, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani announced Qatar's $20 million support to the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations (Gavi).
According to Qatar News Agency (QNA), in addition to lending a helping hand to countries deeply impacted by COVID-19, Qatar has also provided $140 million worth of financial contribution for multilateral healthcare institutions focused on developing vaccines and ensuring efficient healthcare, particularly in the least developed countries.
