Qatar has never shied away from helping people in the time of their need.

The country has done its part in alleviating the suffering of people in different parts of the world, be it in quake-affected Turkey or in war-torn Sudan.

Qatar's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs HE Sultan bin Saad Al Muraikhi, during his speech at the 7th Brussels Conference on supporting the future of Syria and the region, pledged $75m in state aid for the humanitarian needs of the Syrian people.

During the meeting organized by the European Union, Al Muraikhi pointed out that Qatar had given over $2bn as aid to the Syrians since the start of the crisis. This came from the Qatari government, civil society organizations, humanitarian and charitable societies, and Qatari donor institutions.

"The massive humanitarian needs of millions of Syrian civilians remains ongoing as the crisis is yet to be settled. The needs include that of refugees and internally displaced persons. A huge effort is required from the United Nations, humanitarian organizations and donors,” said Al Muraikhi.

He said humanitarian needs were still at catastrophic levels, heightened by the crisis caused by the earthquake this year. Qatar had immediately rushed to the aid of Turkey and Syria, sending emergency response teams and aid in excess of $150m.

The Qatar Fund for Development signed an agreement with the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) to support the construction of an integrated city in northern Syria, for the benefit of 70,000 people.

Al Muraikhi said all efforts should be made to end the Syrian crisis in a way that preserves the country's national unity, territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence. It should also restore stability, security and sustainable peace in and around it.
