Qatar’s commendable efforts under its National COVID-19 Vaccination Program have earned it a leading spot amongst countries across the globe for vaccine coverage of population.

According to the latest statistics released by Our World in Data, a scientific online publication that puts together COVID-19 vaccination data from countries around the world, Qatar has been ranked number two for the percentage of population that has gotten at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccine, amongst countries with a population of over a million.

Over 4,230,000 vaccine doses have been administered to eligible citizens and residents of Qatar since the commencement of the national vaccination drive against COVID-19, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) highlighted.

Based on the latest update by the Ministry, issued yesterday, 80.1 percent of Qatar’s total population has gotten at least one dose of the vaccine dose while 69.9 percent have received both doses of the vaccine.

Our World in Data has also ranked Qatar fifth globally for the percentage of the population that are fully vaccinated, among countries with a population of more than one million.

MoPH has attributed the success of the country’s COVID-19 vaccination program to the overwhelming support of the community.

The Ministry has, however, noted that a small number of eligible people have still not accepted their invitation to get vaccinated.

The Ministry urged unvaccinated, eligible people to act now and get themselves vaccinated, particularly in light of the delta variant that poses a greater threat to people not just in Qatar but also around the world.
