Surveying the recent data on the number of Covid-19 cases in Qatar, the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) indicated that the country has reached the peak of the third wave in this pandemic.

The proof of this is the declining number of new daily cases as Qatar has reached its peak of the third wave, according to the latest data. The Ministry praises the support of the public and local community who have adhered to all the government restrictions and Covid-19 precautionary measures. The number of people who prioritized their booster shots and vaccination doses also significantly improved. All these have prominently contributed to the fact that daily new cases reached a plateau.

However, the Ministry says that the general public must continue to adhere to the prescribed measures and continue to act with caution since the daily cases are still a threat. The MoPH Twitter handle urged on the same.

As on January 28, there were 1,265 new confirmed cases of Covid-19 in Qatar—among which 478 were from travelers.

There were 3,712 recoveries recorded, bringing the total number of recovered people in Qatar up to 305,001.

There was only one death reported of an elderly 76-year-old person. MoPH said the patient had a case of chronic diseases and was given the necessary medical care.

More importantly, the Ministry states that currently 86.9% of the entire population is fully vaccinated with two doses and till date 778,278 booster doses have been administered. In the last 24 hours alone till January 28, nearly 43,261 doses were administered.

The Ministry attributes the spread of the cases this wave to the highly contagious Omicron variant. By stressing on the importance of vaccination and booster doses, the Ministry states that it definitely reduces the risk of severe hospitalizations and ICU admission among the general public.
