The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has announced a major milestone for the National COVID-19 Vaccination Program as the total number of doses administered passes 4 million.

COVID-19

88.8% of the eligible population (12 years and above) have received at least one dose and 77% of the total population have now received at least one dose of the vaccine, according to MoPH.

In the past 24 hours, 21570 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered.

The Ministry further encouraged unvaccinated citizens and residents of the country to play their role in protecting themselves and society by getting the vaccine.

“If you are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine but have not yet booked your appointment; act now,” the Ministry stressed, adding, “Get vaccinated to protect yourself and your family and support the return to normal life as soon as possible.”

Earlier this week, Qatar’s National Health Strategy 2018-2022 Lead for Healthy Ageing, Dr. Hanadi Al Hamad also asked older citizens and residents to act now to protect themselves from the virus.

Dr Al Hamad’s message came in light of the delta variant of the COVID-19 virus, which has made its way to the country and poses a serious threat to unvaccinated individuals.

"Similar to most countries around the world, the Delta variant is now prominent in Qatar. This particular virus is more contagious and causes more severe symptoms than other strains, which is especially risky for our elderly population who are more at risk due to physiological changes that come with aging and potential underlying health conditions," Dr. Al Hamad said.

Moreover, more than 40 percent of children aged 12-15 have already received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.
