Qatar has gone above and beyond in trying to monitor, detect and curb the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country

The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) recently announced 3 confirmed cases of the infection in Qatar, emphasizing that the patients are under full quarantine and strict infection control procedures.

As relevant authorities in the country continue to tackle the virus and block it from spreading, the Government Communications Office (GCO) has announced entry restrictions on travelers from Egypt.

"As a public health measure, the State of Qatar has imposed a temporary entrance restriction to its territories on all those who are coming from Egypt through intermediate points," the GCO said in a press statement.

"The measure is temporary due to the spread of COVID-19,’ it added.

Travelers from Egypt will not be allowed entry to Qatar under measures to control the spread of the coronavirus. The decision does not apply to Qatari citizens, Al Jazeera reported.

Earlier, Qatar Airways had announced that passengers from China, Iran, and South Korea will be subjected to travel restrictions on its aircraft.

QA will only accept travelers transiting through Hamad International Airport (HIA) from these countries, where the prevalence of the infection is significantly high.

"Qatari nationals and those holding a Qatar Residency Permit traveling from China, Iran and South Korea whose final destination is Doha and are showing no symptoms of the Novel Coronavirus, will be asked to stay in home isolation or a quarantine facility for 14 days," QA states on its website.

All passengers from China, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Macao, Singapore, Iran, Italy, Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea who show symptoms of fever, cough, shortness of breath, other respiratory symptoms will be transferred to the Communicable Disease Center, Hamad Medical Corporation, for further assessment, treatment, and admission, the airline said.
