Qatar’s embassy building in the Somalian capital of Mogadishu was severely damaged after the deadliest bomb blast in the country’s history.

The blast, which killed over 230 people and injured 300 others, destroyed several buildings and set dozens of vehicles on fire.

Ambassador Ahmed bin Saeed Al Rumaihi, HE the Director of Information Office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said that the embassy building had sustained heavy damage in the car bomb explosion.

“The building of Qatar’s Embassy in the Somali capital Mogadishu has been severely damaged by the explosion of a car bomb near the embassy building on the K5 Junction on Saturday evening,” said a statement in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.

Al Rumaihi said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs contacted the embassy to check on the Qatari diplomats and the managers, as well as the rest of the embassy staff, adding that the charge d’affaires was slightly injured in the explosion but he is now in a good health, and the rest of staff are fine, according to Gulf Times.

He also said that the ministry had contacted Somali authorities to take all necessary measures to secure the safety of the staff of the embassy and their families.

Meanwhile, Qatar strongly condemned the two bombings, reported The Peninsula.

An official from the Foreign Ministry stressed the solidarity of Qatar and its support to the sisterly Somali government in the face of terrorism and to achieve stability in the country.

The source stressed the need for concerted efforts by the international community to combat the phenomenon of terrorism.
