Although Qatar’s National Day (QND) does not happen until December 18, celebrations in anticipation of it has begun in right earnest.

The Darb Al Saai ground, the venue for QND-linked celebrations situated in the heart of Doha, officially opened with a flag hoisting ceremony, reported Gulf Times.

An elite police parade, accompanied by music and other popular activities, added to the festivities.

Jassim and Hamad bin Jassim Charitable Foundation Chairman HE Sheikh Nawaf bin Jassim bin Jabor Al Thani said QND celebrations represent an important platform for renewing loyalty, reinforcing national values and establishing the principles of love, peace and benevolence toward the world, according to The Peninsula

He pointed out that the slogan for this year’s celebration, ‘Promise of Prosperity and Glory’ represents a good omen to the people of Qatar.

This year’s celebrations feature several novelties, including a new vehicle introduced by the traffic department. The vehicle, which is fully equipped to meet all kinds of emergencies arising in the desert during the camping season, will play a key role in increasing awareness on safe practices for campers, reported Qatar Tribune.

The amphitheatre hosted several cultural and entertainment shows to enhance the national theme and held discussions on domestic issues.

Qatar Rail turned head with a simulation of the Doha Tram, which drew quite a number of visitors into its pavilion.

The venue features a number of shops that sell gift items, food and souvenirs among others. Some private hospitals are also offering visitors basic health checkups.
The venue has four health service pavilions under the supervision of the Hamad Medical Corporation including Qatar Red Crescent, Lekhwiya Medical Unit, Al Emadi Hospital and Al Ahli Hospital.

There are also different animals on show including camels, horses, goats and sheep. Children can ride on ponies as well.

The festivities will last until December 20, with the grounds open to public from 8 am to 12 noon and 2 pm to 10 pm every day, with some days dedicated just for families.
