Qatar’s national skydiving team, affiliated with the Qatar Air Sports Committee of the Joint Special Forces, is preparing to defend its titles in the team and individual competitions at the CISM Military World Parachuting Championship in Slovakia.
The championship begins on August 14 and runs until August 23, bringing together teams from 33 countries.
Qatar will be represented by Al Hadaf Team, one of the leading teams in international skydiving according to the source, after recording several achievements, titles and world records over recent years. The team also entered Guinness World Records for the world’s largest night canopy formation.
Mohammed Al Marri will compete in the individual seniors category, while Abdulaziz Abdullah, Khalid Shajaa, Saleh Al Obaidi and Mohammed Al Attas will take part in the team competition. Ali Al Yafei and Saleh Al Karbi will compete in the junior individual category.
Qatar has participated in the Military World Parachuting Championship since 2010, earning numerous gold, silver and bronze medals as well as setting world records across different skydiving and aerial formation disciplines.
The team’s participation builds on the development of skydiving in Qatar since the sport began its organised growth locally in 2008, with Qatar going on to establish a presence in continental and international competitions.
Al Hadaf Team travelled to Slovakia ahead of the championship for a training camp, completing a number of jumps and training sessions aimed at reaching a high level of technical and physical readiness before the competition.
Abdulaziz Abdullah Al-Hajjaji, captain of Qatar’s national skydiving team, said the championship would be highly competitive, with the team arriving in Slovakia as defending champion after winning the previous edition held in Qatar.
He said Qatar is ready to perform strongly from the opening day after producing impressive results in its recent jumps, adding that the team is aiming to retain the title despite the strength of the competition and the participation of some of the world’s leading skydivers.
Al-Hajjaji added that the training camp in Slovakia had helped improve the team’s technical and physical readiness and strengthen coordination between its members ahead of the official competition.
Qatari international judge Mohammed Al Hajri will also participate as part of the championship’s judging panel.
