Qatar is getting ready to sign a bilateral agreement with Nigeria to facilitate direct recruitment of skilled workers and professionals from that country, reported Qatar Tribune.

This was revealed by Nigerian Ambassador to Qatar HE Dr Harunaa Bawa-Abdullahi Wase, during an interactive session with members of the Nigerian community in Qatar during a town hall meeting.

He said all necessary procedures were completed for signing of the agreement that will give Qatar’s public and private sector organisations opportunities to hire Nigerian talent directly from the country.

The deal will help Qatar’s firms employ competent hands while at the same time protect the rights of the employees, he said. Ambassador Wase added that the pact was part of nine proposed bilateral agreements between Qatar and Nigeria, of which five have already been signed.

The envoy said Qatar currently hosts 10,763 Nigerians in different sectors, including health, education, construction, consultancy and media.

He said both countries had enormous potential to benefit from each other’s resources. He said the embassy would support the Diaspora Organisation Qatar’s (NIDO-Qatar) move to have a Nigerian school in Qatar.
