Education has always been a top priority for Qatar. This is mirrored in the number of initiatives the country has taken to promote education at all levels, locally and internationally.

In the same light, His Excellency the Minister of Education and Higher Education Dr Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali Al Hammadi has affirmed Qatar’s keenness to abide by international agreements and conventions to promote regional academic activities and international cooperation in the field of higher education.

Qatar, through national and private institutions of higher education, is working in partnership with international organizations and civil society organizations to provide educational opportunities to millions of young people, children, displaced persons in the developing world, HE the Minister said.

The minister said this in a speech at a high-level meeting on the integration and mobility between students and faculty in higher education within the work of the 40th session of the General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco).

HE Al Hammadi said that Qatar National Vision 2030 and the strategic plans for the education and training sector include results, programs and indicators for higher education.

He pointed out, in this context, the establishment of new colleges and departments at Qatar University as the national university, and the establishment of many branches of international universities in the country with the participation of the private sector.

These institutes provide free higher education opportunities for citizens and a large number of members of communities living in the country and expatriates from countries suffering from armed conflicts, HE the Minister pointed out.

He also stressed the country’s keenness to provide higher education opportunities for the poor and displaced people in the world, especially in developing countries.

He highlighted the efforts of Education Above All (EAA) Foundation, that works together with global organizations such as Unesco, the International Monetary Fund, the UN Children’s Fund (Unicef) and other national and regional organizations, as well as the Al Fakhoora program in promoting education around the world.

The EAA Foundation, in conjunction with these organizations, has provided scholarships and access to higher education for displaced youth from several countries such as Palestine and Syria, HE Al Hammadi noted.

This is in addition to the reconstruction and rehabilitation of many educational institutions affected by conflict, including (18) universities, he said.

HE Al Hammadi said that Qatar also participated as a member of Unesco in the preparation of the draft global convention for the recognition of qualifications of higher education.
