To meet its sustainability goals and encourage sustainable practices among the community, Qatar is marking the fourth edition of Qatar Sustainability Week (QSW).
The week which kicked off yesterday features more than 200 sustainability-related activities and events being held across the country and in every community.
QSW is held under the patronage of His Excellency the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani and will run until November 2.
The week-long national sustainability initiative of the Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC), a member of Qatar Foundation (QF), will highlight the efforts of the public and private sectors and their innovative, practical solutions to the environmental challenges that Qatar and the wider region face.
The week will engage a diverse range of stakeholders to help facilitate the coordination needed to unite under an overarching umbrella and help achieve the Qatar National Vision 2030, in line with the global sustainability agenda.

“Initiatives like QSW build bridges for our communities to join national and global movements, while also highlighting the major milestones the country has reached through sustainable practices," said QGBC director, engineer Meshal Al Shammari.
"With the backing of our sponsors and supporting partners, who are making real and measurable differences, we look forward to welcoming Qatar’s residents to the diverse events taking place throughout the coming week," he added.
QSW 2019 will see sustainability campaigns run by the government and private bodies, hotels, restaurants, universities, and schools to stimulate engagement in their respective communities.
Some of the activities through the week comprise:
- informative talks and lectures
- hands-on workshops on lean thinking in public governance and construction
- "Run for Wellness" at Aspire Park
- a beach and desert clean-up
- Future Vision – Botanical Art Exhibition
- waste management and recycling campaigns
Additionally, Al Wakrah Municipality, in collaboration with QGBC, will also launch the 'Green Home Guide' in Al Wakrah.
These events have received endorsements from key governmental bodies, including Tarsheed, the National Program for Conservation and Energy Efficiency (part of Kahramaa); the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Municipality and Environment.
QSW will allow the public to learn about sustainability and better understand the efforts that have been undertaken by the various stakeholders to ensure they live in a healthy society and play their part in achieving Qatar's sustainability targets.
