Qatar to announce regional defence partnership

Qatar has warned that the economic consequences of disruptions to Gulf energy supplies may not yet have reached their highest point, as regional instability continues to affect energy infrastructure, trade and security.

Speaking at the Global Security Forum 2026 in Doha, HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence Affairs, identified threats to sovereignty, energy supplies and the spillover of regional conflicts as some of the major challenges facing Qatar and the wider Gulf.

The forum, which runs from October 19–21 under the theme “The Future of Alliances,” brings together officials and security experts from more than 100 countries.

New defence partnership to be announced

HE Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al Thani also revealed that Qatar is preparing to announce a new partnership with regional partners on defence initiatives.

No details have yet been disclosed about which countries will be involved, what capabilities the partnership will cover or when the formal announcement will be made.
