Qatar Condemns Attack on Nakilat LNG Carrier Al Mayeda in Arabian Gulf

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned the attack on the liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier Al Mayeda, owned by Qatar Gas Transport Company Limited (Nakilat), while it was sailing in the Arabian Gulf, describing the incident as a serious threat to maritime navigation and global energy supplies.

In a statement issued on Sunday, 1 November 2026, the ministry affirmed Qatar's right to take all necessary measures under international law and the Charter of the United Nations to protect its property and interests and ensure the safety of its vessels and crews.

The ministry said the competent authorities had begun investigations to establish the circumstances of the incident and identify those responsible. It also warned of the potential consequences of targeting energy tankers for regional stability, the global economy, the marine environment and water security.

In a separate statement dated 30 October, Nakilat said Al Mayeda had been hit by unidentified objects while transiting the Arabian Gulf on Friday evening. The company reported no injuries among crew members and no environmental impact from the incident.

Nakilat said the vessel was in a safe condition and remained operational while the impact of the incident was being assessed. The company said it was coordinating with the vessel, its crew and relevant maritime security authorities in the region.
