Qatar University (QU) has been doing quite well in recent years, finding itself in international ranking lists alongside top universities around the world.

QU added another huge feather to its cap recently when it was placed 173rd in the QS World University Rankings 2024, up by 35 ranks (208) from the previous year.

The QS World Rankings introduced three new indicators this year — sustainability, employment options, and international research network. Hence breaking into the top-200 for the first time was a significant milestone which showcased QU’s consistent improvement in all areas.

QU’s programmes also made a mark on the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023. The Qatari university placed first in the Arab region in sports science and theology, divinity, and religion.

They were third in law and legal studies, environmental sciences, accounting and finance and social sciences and management.

QU President Dr Omar Al Ansari was thrilled with the achievement.

“We’ve made significant progress in the QS World Universities Rankings, finishing 173rd this year despite changes in ranking methodology. This is a reflection of the success we’ve achieved and illustrates QU’s vast contributions and dedication to excellence.

“Internationally, QU has been making great strides and achievements in all fields, expanding its international impact, including research aspects and partnerships, and remaining committed to our mission of addressing relevant local and regional challenges and advancing knowledge,” he said.

The achievement followed the announcement by Times Higher Education that QU placed 28th in the Times Higher Education (THE) Asia Rankings 2023, moving up 18 places from 2022 and entering the top-30 universities in Asia.

They were placed 24th worldwide and first in the MENA region on the Young Universities ranking by the same ranking agency.

Recently, QU boasted an ambitious research roadmap fielding national development priorities and a number of significant research successes with global significance.

QU also maintains a close relationship with the public and private sectors which has led to a number of MOUs and collaborative agreements, which greatly benefit the institution.
