Under the theme 'Teaching English and the Skills of the 21st Century – Communicate, Collaborate, Create', Qatar University Foundation Program is hosting it’s 5th Annual International Conference on English Language Teaching (ELT).

As a result of the pandemic, the conference took place over the WebEx platform from November 7 till November 8.

With over 8,000 global experts and interested professionals in ELT, the conference showcased modern techniques and practices in language education to support students in developing their skills and improve knowledge.

The conference provided a platform for discussing ELT and skills of the 21st century that will enable students to acquire knowledge and enhance participation. It also pointed out how academic conferences can be incorporated to enhance professional development for ELT specialists.

According to Dr. Hassan bin Rashid Al Derham, the President of Qatar University, the virtual conference has enabled them to reach a wider audience, receiving participation from more than 40 countries, and hopes to host larger conferences in the future.

Stephen Krashen, Emeritus Professor of linguistics at the University of Southern California, USA, and a distinguished author in second language acquisition (SLA), gave the conference opening plenary session, "Three Issues in Language Acquisition and Use." Prof. Krashen has received distinguished academic awards and contributed more than 486 publications of papers and books.
