Qatar’s beach volleyball team of Cherif Younnouse and Ahmed Tijan retained their Asian Games gold from four years ago at the NBB Beach Volleyball Centre in Hangzhou, China, on Thursday.

In a thrilling final, they defeated the host nation’s Mutailipu Abuduhalikejiang and Wu Jiaxin in straight sets — 22-20, 21-16.

The first set was a very close contest, with the lead fluctuating wildly between the two teams. In the end, it was the Qatari pair who emerged victorious.

Meanwhile, Qatar also won a bronze in the mixed skeet shooting team event. Rashid Saleh Al Athba, who earlier won silver in men’s skeet team event, joined hands with Reem Al Sharshani to score 44 points and beat Bahrain’s Tammar Ali Saleh and Maryam Ramadhan Juma (37).

Qatar thus climbed to the 17th spot in the medal’s table with one gold, one silver and two bronze medals.
