Qatar spared no time in assisting in Lebanon following the devastating Beirut Port Explosion on August 4, 2020.

The country's leadership, companies, and individuals all came together to offer donations through a number of initiatives, expressing their solidarity with the Lebanese people.

Upon the directives of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Qatar also sent a team of International Search and Rescue Group from Qatar's Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya) to assist in relief efforts in Beirut.

The team, which has now arrived back in Doha, was involved in the search for missing persons and victims of the explosion, in co-ordination with the Lebanese army and civil defense.

In addition to participating in relief efforts, the Qatari medical and logistical team has also helped set up two field hospitals that are fully equipped with the necessary medical equipment needed to treat the injured and other patients.

The Qatari support will not be limited to food and medical aid, he pointed out, adding that other aspects in coordination with relevant Lebanese authorities will also be taken care of.

Earlier, during an international fundraising conference for Lebanon, organized by French President Emmanual Macron and United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, HH the Amir stressed global solidarity with the Lebanese people as they face tragic and dire circumstances.

HH the Amir mentioned that Qatar was quick to respond to the tragedy and help the brothers in Lebanon by providing aid worth a total of $50 million. In the coming days, Qatar will also announce its contribution to the reconstruction of Beirut through different projects.
