A prominent part of Eid celebrations in Qatar is the generosity that the country and its people extend toward the wider community.

To share the joy of Eid Al Adha 2020 with members of the expatriate community, the Qatar government launched the ‘Our Eid is One Initiative-2.’

The initiative encouraged community members to celebrate Eid Al Adha at home and underlined the significance of staying indoors to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The first such initiative was implemented during Eid Al Fitr 2020.

At least 50,000 residents from 17 nationalities benefitted from this program, under which 25,000 food coupons including necessary food materials for Eid Al Adha were given out.

Qatar Charity (QC) distributed the coupons at a special event convening 40 officials and representatives from different embassies and community organizations in Qatar.

Representatives of these embassies were present on the occasion:

Philippines, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Uganda, Tanzania, Tunisia, Gambia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Ghana and Kenya.

From the expatriate community organizations, the following attended:

The Bangladeshi Community Organization, Indian Community Benevolent Forum, Indian Cultural Centre, Kerala Muslim Cultural Centre, the Cultural Forum, Indonesian Community Association – Permica, Indian Community Center, Helping Hands - Al Khor, Filipino Community in Qatar, Non-Resident Nepalese Association, Thrissur District Souhruda Vedi, Kerala Cultural Centre and the Sri Lankan Community Development Forum.

The representatives received the coupons from QC, which will be distributed among needy members of their respective community, including families, individuals and workers.

A total of 25,000 Eid greeting cards were also given out to the community members together with the food coupons.

About 3,000 gifts were distributed among children of needy families.

Additionally, under the initiative, 4,000 gifts are to be distributed among residents of the COVID-19 quarantine facility in Umm Slal and several gifts and Ooredoo recharge coupons will be given to the workers.

In a press statement, the Ministry of Interior (MoI), said, the ‘Our Eid is One Initiative’ that has been set up through the combined efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor, and Social Affairs (MADLSA), QC, and Ooredoo is another step that bolsters the bond between Qatar and members of expatriate communities.

The initiative also mirrors the Qatar government’s support and efforts toward ensuring the welfare of its expatriate communities during the current epidemic, the Ministry mentioned.
