According to the Henley Passport Index, Qatar’s passport acceptance now ranks 45th in the whole list, a much significant improvement from its 59th position on the list in 2021. The passport has improved and climbed up 14 places from its earlier rank in July, last year.
The Henley Passport Index is an original ranking that uses data given by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to list out passports according to the number of destinations the said passport can access without requiring a prior visa. The listing accesses IATA’s most accurate travel information database to release the ranking for each quarter.
The Henley Passport Index reports that Qatari passport holders are now able to access 51 worldwide destinations without a visa, and obtain a visa on arrival in 40 countries. Prior visas are required for 103 countries.
The ranks do not take into account any temporary restrictions. This is the reason why most of the top 10 rankings have remained unchanged since last year. However, Qatar jumped 14 places ahead to list at 45th position with a mobility score of 95%. Japan and Singapore are at the top of the list with visa-free access to 192 countries. Germany and South Korea have a mobility score of 190 and rank second in the index. The third place is a tie between four countries who all equally have a score of 189—Finland, Luxembourg, Italy, and Spain.
The European nations enjoy a significant level of freedom and are ranked quite well on the list among the top-tier positions. However, countries that have access to 40 nations as visa-on-arrival and visa-free are among the worst-ranked passports. For instance, Afghanistan ranks the least with a mobility score of 26 on the Henley Passport Index.
The report also observes that barring the pandemic, visitors from several nations have doubled their freedom to access global destinations in the last two decades. While an individual in 2006 could access 57 countries on average, he can now access almost 107 destinations now.
