Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has concluded its multi-specialty medical convoy at the Bahri Teaching Hospital in Sudan, implemented in collaboration with Sidra Medicine and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).
In just one week, a total of 124 free surgeries were performed, higher than the initial target of 116, which means more underprivileged patients getting better.
The procedures included 49 general surgeries, 55 pediatric surgeries, and 20 urology surgeries - mostly major ones.
By providing free surgical services for 124 most vulnerable patients, the initiative helped ease their financial burden, reduce waiting lists, and back the broader efforts to improve access to health care in the country.
The successful medical convoy was carried out by a visiting medical delegation from Qatar, which comprised Dr. Mansour Ahmed Jaber, Senior Consultant Pediatric Surgeon at Sidra Medicine, and Dr. Siddik Mohiye-Eldin Siddik, Consultant General Surgeon at HMC.
Other Sudanese specialists and consultants of the host hospital contributed to the surgeries, which demonstrated the importance of concerted medical and humanitarian efforts to serve patients and foster experience sharing.
The closing ceremony was attended by Minister of Health for Khartoum State Dr. Mahmoud Al-Badri, Federal Director of Therapeutic Medicine Dr. Haider Mohamed Abdel-Nabi, and Director of the Bahri Teaching Hospital Dr. Ahmed Al Bashir.
Head of QRCS's representation office in Sudan Dr. Salah Al Daak emphasized that medical convoys were part of QRCS's efforts to support Sudan's health care system. He highlighted the importance of such initiatives in providing medical care and facilitating knowledge sharing between Qatari and Sudanese medics.
In turn, Director of the Bahri Teaching Hospital Dr. Ahmed Al Bashir hailed the mission as an excellent humanitarian initiative, noting that it revitalized the hospital's role and services. He thanked QRCS, the Sudanese Doctors Association in Qatar (SUDAQ), HMC, Sidra Medicine, and the people and government of Qatar for their unwavering support for Sudan.
