QSCCB launches awareness campaign for World Sight Day and White Cane Safety Day
The Qatar Social and Cultural Center for the Blind (QSCCB) has launched an awareness campaign running from October 8 to 18, 2026, marking World Sight Day and International White Cane Safety Day.
The campaign is being organised in collaboration with educational, youth and cultural institutions, with activities aimed at increasing awareness of visual impairment and promoting greater inclusion.
Focus on the role of the white cane
A key focus of the campaign is raising awareness of the white cane and its role in supporting independence and mobility for people who are blind.
The programme also aims to help the public understand appropriate ways to communicate and interact with people with visual impairments, while correcting common misconceptions.
Workshops across schools and organisations
Activities include awareness workshops at:
- Rabaa Al Adawiya Secondary School for Girls
- Nasser bin Abdullah Al Attiyah Secondary School for Boys
- Al Daayen Municipality
The campaign also includes a meeting for members of Doha Youth Center at the QSCCB headquarters, with Barzan Youth Center participating in some of the activities.
QSCCB takes part at National Museum of Qatar
QSCCB is also participating in related activities at the National Museum of Qatar.
The centre is using the occasion to highlight its programmes and wider cultural and awareness role in supporting the rights, inclusion and participation of people with visual impairments in society.
The campaign continues until October 18.
