Qatar has been working hard to increase its green spaces in a bid to encourage a healthier lifestyle among the public.

Under this ambition, Ashghal had announced last year that it was aiming for a 240 percent increase of green areas in the country by 2022.

Complementing these efforts and adding to some of the country’s beautiful public parks, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) opened three new parks in Qatar yesterday.

The parks are located at Al Bayt Stadium, Al Janoub Stadium and the old Al Ersal Station training sites cluster in Onaiza, near West Bay, SC said in a statement.

Opened on National Sport Day 2020, the parks saw visitors engage in a number of sports and recreational activities, embracing the sporting spirit of the occasion.

Each of the three parks has tennis and basketball courts, children’s play areas, and jogging and cycling tracks.

There are also some open spaces and workout equipment available at the parks for the use of visitors.

The stunningly landscaped Al Bayt Stadium Park saw several fitness activities and fun games organized by different entities in Qatar yesterday. Representatives of SC, Qatar Football Association and Qatar Stars League also joined the day’s celebrations at the park.

The Al Bayt Stadium Park features a 1.7 kilometer-long track for camels and horses besides a water body, an artificial lake of around 19,907square meters, Gulf Times reported.

Additionally, the park comprises six eateries including a BBQ kiosk for meat lovers where they can dig into a variety of scrumptious grilled meat on the menu.

Meanwhile, community members were invited to make use of the various facilities at Al Janoub Park and Al Ersal Park.

Commenting on the opening of the parks, SC secretary-general Hassan Al Thawadi said, “We are proud to open three public parks on our country’s National Sport Day. These facilities will boost local communities by providing open spaces for a vast range of leisure activities. We are pleased to be showcasing the legacy of Qatar 2022 almost three years before the tournament kicks off.”
