If you are someone who regularly drives in Doha, you would have seen many drivers stop inside yellow boxes at intersections for whatever reasons.

However, the General Directorate of Traffic has warned motorists against this practic e, which often leads to disruption of traffic and congestion, reported Qatar Tribune.

Brigadier Mohammed Saad Al Kharji, Director General of the General Directorate of Traffic, warned motorists during launch of the Ministry of Interior’s ‘Accident-Free Summer’ campaign.

The campaign will try to spread awareness among motorists on the most critical traffic violations.

“Stopping in yellow boxes is one of the worst traffic violations in Qatar. It has severe consequences. Vehicle users must give others the opportunity to cross intersections without any interruption,” Al Kharji said.

“Cameras installed at intersections will catch vehicles stopping in yellow boxes and the violation will attract a fine of QR500. This violation cannot be settled with payment of half the fine,” he added.

Traffic patrols have the authority to impound violating vehicles on the spot.

He said the first week of the ‘Accident-Free Summer’ campaign will focus on the offence of stopping in yellow boxes.
