Al Rayyan, one of the oldest clubs in Qatar which also enjoys a huge fanatic fan following, has a new person at the helm.

The General Assembly of Al Rayyan Sports Club on Sunday elected HE Sheikh Al Qaqa bin Hamad Al Thani as the new President for a complementary period until 2024. Sheikh Al Qaqa and the new Vice-President HE Sheikh Ali bin Saud Al Thani were both elected by acclamation.

Engineer Mohamed Al Atwan was appointed as the club’s general supervisor.

The General Assembly meeting took place in the conference hall at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium after the quorum was completed in the presence of founding members and working members.

Sheikh Al Qaqa, as well as representatives of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, attended the meeting.

The new president thanked the work done by the previous administration under the leadership of HE Sheikh Ali bin Saud Al Thani and Ali Salem Afifa. He praised the duo’s service to Al Rayyan Club in the previous years.

Sheikh Al Qaqa, who called it an honour to be the club’s new president, said it was a heavy responsibility. However, he promised to do his duty to the best of his ability.

He said the goal of the new administration would be to restore Al Rayyan Club to pole position, compete hard for all titles and tournaments as well as take the club to a level that meets the aspirations of its fans and members.

The club held its ordinary and extraordinary general assembly meetings last Monday when the resignations of the former President and Vice-President were accepted.
