In the spirit of Ramadan, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) has allowed shopping malls and retail outlets to extend their working hours during the holy month without gaining prior approval.

“From the beginning of Ramadan 1440 AH until the end of the holy month, all shopping mall and retail outlets (supermarkets, hypermarkets and others) could extend working hours to 24 hours per day,” the Ministry said in a statement, according to Gulf Times.

However, MOCI emphasized that all malls and retail outlets should clearly inform consumers of their working hours and schedule.

The initiative springs from the Ministry’s efforts to encourage trade sectors.

Throughout Ramadan, shopping malls, retail outlets and restaurants attract scores of people who visit these outlets and restaurants during their opening hours.

Considering the change in routine during the month of mercy, when people juggle to maintain prayers, work, commute and leisure, in addition to other commitments, the Ministry has asked shopping malls and retail outlets to extend their working hours and let the public know about the updated hours.

This would allow people to better manage their schedule and pick a time of their convenience for shopping.

Earlier this month, the Ministry had also slashed prices of more than 500 products to meet the needs of the citizens and residents for reduced-price consumer goods during the holy month in which spending on food items is noticeably high.

On a related note, the Ministry of Interior has also issued a number of safety tips for the public to follow, which includes a tip encouraging individuals to avoid last minute shopping for Eid to avoid traffic buildup on the roads. Click here to review all the other useful safety tips.
