Qatar National Sports Day is all about adopting a healthier lifestyle. Changing your lifestyle overnight can be a little daunting. The idea of a lifestyle transformation itself can also be confusing as there is plenty of information out there.

This is one of the major reasons why people often choose not to start changing at all. The trick is not to completely change your lifestyle, but to take baby steps - start with a simple change.

To help you get started, here is a list of some healthy habits to choose from. Some of these things don't take a lot of effort and hence won't seem hard to include in your diet/lifestyle.

- Reduce adding salt to your food, and use spices or even herbs for flavour.

- Eat more vegetables with every lunch or dinner meal.

- Replace either lunch or dinner with a bowl of fruits or vegetables.

- Get up and walk around your house every time there's an ad break on the TV.

- Switch to reduced fat or low fat dairy.

- Swap soft drinks for water.

- Walk around while you're on the phone.

- Eat at least 2 pieces of fruit every day.

- Drink a glass of water right before you sleep and after you wake up.

- Walk up/down the stairs instead of taking the lift or escalator.

- Cook more meals at home, rather than eating outside or ordering in.

- Drink green tea at least once a day or between meals.

- Walk for 20-30 minutes every day.

Keep in mind that these tips are not meant for quick results. Increasing physical activity while excersing a cleaner diet is the key.

Remember - simplicity is the key. Adopt some of the simple changes we listed above and we're sure you will see changes in the long run.
