The newly-inaugurated Women's Wellness and Research Center (WWRC) of the Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) will officially open its emergency department on Friday at 6 am, Qatar Tribune reported.

In line with Qatar’s National Health Strategy, HMC has carefully designed and developed the wellness center with family-centered care in mind.

The new hospital is part of Hamad bin Khalifa Medical City - a purpose built campus providing a range of specialized healthcare services in Doha.

From Friday morning onwards, women facing obstetrical or gynaecological emergencies should call 999 or proceed to the emergency department of the WWRC. All such emergencies occurring before 6 am Friday will be taken care of at the Women's Hospital Emergency Department.

"The new emergency department at the WWRC will significantly expand our capacity and provide patients with double the space and number of nurses and physicians on staff," said Dr Huda Abdulla al Saleh, WWRC Executive Director (Quality and Safety) and Senior Consultant (Obstetrics and Gynaecology).

"In addition to enhancing our overall service, we have been working diligently to ensure women requiring immediate medical attention for an obstetrical or gynaecological emergency can access the care they need at a single location," she added.

Patients treated in the new 28-bed emergency department at WWRC will have access to a larger, more comfortable waiting area. They will also be able to register and pay for their treatment at a cashier counter located within the department and will have access to dedicated support services such as advanced clinical imaging, clinical diagnostics, and a 24-hour in-house pharmacy.

The Emergency Department at WWRC will also offer care 24x7 to women experiencing a gynaecological emergency.

At the same time, all remaining in-patient services including labour and childbirth will relocate to the new WWRC. All deliveries previously scheduled at Women's Hospital will take place at the new facility from this time onwards.
