Qatar's Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has announced a change to the eligibility criteria for the current priority vaccine group.

According to the announcement, as Qatar expands its nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive, teachers and school administration staff will now be included in the list of those eligible for the vaccine at present.

To facilitate the expanded vaccination program, the Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC) has set up a mass vaccination center at the Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC) to begin administering COVID-19 vaccines to teachers and school administration staff.

In a statement, the Ministry said, "To ensure the safety of the community, invitations for appointments will be delivered in a phased approach."

Teachers and school administration staff will get an SMS requesting them to get their vaccination done at the center during dedicated time slots.

Only those who have been invited to go to the center will be vaccinated, the Ministry has underlined.

Others have been asked to wait until they get an SMS invite.

Qatar has been administering the Pfizer-BioNtech COVID-19 vaccine free of cost to individuals under a four-phased vaccination campaign.

The four phases prioritize different groups of the country's population.

Qatar's vaccination strategy will enable everyone to be vaccinated against COVID-19 in 2021.

Recently, MoPH also approved Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use in the country.
