The weekend is precious for all of us, you will want to make the most out of it. To help you decide, we have put together a list of events taking place across Qatar this weekend:

1. IAAF World Athletics Championships Doha 2019

Khalifa Stadium

Dates: September 27 to October 6, 2019

The ten-day sporting spectacular will see 2,000 athletes arrive at the Khalifa International Stadium to compete for gold, whilst the world’s first-ever Midnight Marathon will take place along the Corniche, set against the lights of the mesmerizing Doha skyline.

Spectators will enjoy a whole host of entertainment on a daily basis between 27 September 27 - October 6, with a Global Athletics Village bringing worldwide cultures to life through entertainment and cuisine, as athletes from 213 different countries will take part in the competition.

Every evening will see new world champions created with finals taking place every day in events such as the highly anticipated 100m and 200m sprints, through to the shows of the sheer strength of competitors in the hammer throw and shot put.

2. D3 Festival – Disco, Dandiya, Dance

The second edition of the D3 Festival – Disco, Dandiya, Dance, Navratri special is back.

Dandiya is an Indian folk dance, originated in Gujarat, which is celebrated during Navratri, a celebration that continues for nine nights.

The dance attire includes bamboo sticks which are painted and decorated beautifully in bright colors, women are dressed in Chaniya Choli with Bandhani dupattas, and men wear traditional Sherwani or Kurta Pyjama. Instruments such as Dholak and Tabla are used for Dandiya.

Shibani Kashyap, the versatile female Bollywood playback singer, and performer will grace the stage this season. She is a pop singer-composer and a live performer. She is the voice behind many hit numbers such as Ho Gayi Hain Mohabbat, Sajna Aa Bhi Jaa, Zinda Hoon Main, and may more.

The event will also feature a DJ’s, a huge stage, live dhol, and LED walls.

3. Artistic Dimensions to a Healthier World exhibition

Dates: October 2-27, 2019

Where: Fire Station

Entry: Entry is free for all

The exhibition is curated by the World Innovation Summit for Health (WISH), which looks at the interrelationship between art and promotion of health and wellbeing, as well as shines a spotlight on healthcare issues.

It features artworks by Giles Duley, an award-winning humanitarian photographer who documents human plight in war zones across the world.

In addition to that, there will also be drawings created by the Rohingya children who are currently living in refugee camps in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh, after fleeing persecution in Rakhine State, Myanmar. Some of these children are part of a program called ‘Creative Methodologies for Mental Health and Psychosocial Support with Children in Emergency Settings’, which is being delivered by the UK-based charity, Save The Children, in these camps.

The exhibition will also conduct Art therapy and Photography workshop.

Art therapy workshop is taking place on October 2, 2019, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Fire Station Education Room 1. It is a workshop by members of Save The Children charity targeting for adults, Qatar’s school teachers, and the healthcare community, and others to show how effective use of art therapy can help children cope with stress and trauma. Click here for registration.

Photography workshop by Giles Duley will be taking place on October 10, 2019, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Fire Station Workshop 4, this workshop is about a humanitarian photographer, who has documented images of human suffering in conflict zones across the world. Click here for registration.

4. Exhibition by El Anatusi

Weekend in Qatar

Dates: October 1, 2019, to January 31, 2020

Time: Saturday to Thursday 9:00 am – 7:00 pm, Friday 1:30 pm – 7:00 pm

Where: Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art

Entry: Entry is free for all

El Anatsui is Africa’s most prominent living artist.

This exhibition comprises every media used by the artist in his remarkable 50-year career, focusing on the triumphant and monumental quality of his sculptures, with the signature bottle cap series at the heart of the presentation.

Along with these aspiring works, the exhibition includes wood sculptures and wall reliefs from the mid-1970s to the late 1990s; ceramic sculptures of the late 1970s; and drawings, sketches, and prints.

5. “Cantus” A Celebration of voice and instruments

Where: Drama Theatre, Building 16

Entry: Entry is free for all

Cultural Village Foundation – Katara in cooperation with the Embassy of South Africa in the State of Qatar and Sherborne Qatar invites everyone to attend “Cantus” a celebration of voice and instruments this weekend.

Please note that children below 6 years old are not allowed.

6. Chess Club

Weekend in Qatar

Dates: October 3, 2019

Time: 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm

Where: Qatar National Library

Entry: Entry is free for all

Did you know that chess improves memory, problem-solving, and IQ? It's also a wonderful way to improve focus, flex those creativity muscles, and most importantly, kids love playing chess.
