The third Local Dates Exhibition is currently underway at Souq Waqif with the participation of 55 local farms and companies.

Aiming to promote the produce of local farmers, visitors can look forward to a variety of fresh dates at the exhibition which launched on Thursday.

The third edition of the Local Dates exhibition will run until October 23 every day from 3 pm till 9 pm on weekdays and from 3 pm until 10 pm during weekends.

During the launch day, the exhibition witnessed a massive turnout as citizens and residents purchased large quantities of dates at affordable prices.

With prices varying from QAR8 to QAR15 per kg based on the type of dates, visitors can purchase a variety of local dates being offered at the exhibition.

The Director of the Agricultural Affairs Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) Yousuf Khalid Al Khulaifi stated that 100 rooms have been distributed among Qatari farms this year in order to dry the dates.

Al Khulaifi pointed out that these rooms can speed up the drying process and improve the quality of these local dates, offering a significant advantage in comparison to traditional methods.

He also stated that the Ministry is awaiting the outcomes of the rooms for drying dates in the farms before distributing further rooms.

The Ministry is prepared to acquire the dates from the farms and has set aside QAR10 million for this purpose. These purchases are given to local charities, who then distribute them to countries in need.

The ongoing exhibition is organized by the MME, represented by the Department of Agricultural Affairs and Souq Waqif Management.
