The Third Local Dates Exhibition, which runs till today in Souq Waqif, has sold out of almost 39 tonnes of dates and is set to conclude at 10 pm today.
The Local Dates exhibition which opened on October 14 aimed to promote dates as a national product and introduce its variety of date produce.
Ahmed A Yafei, Head of the Section of Agricultural Guidance and Services, Department of Agricultural Affairs of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change noted that around 50 tonnes of dates were supplied for the exhibition and over 39 tonnes of dates were sold until Thursday, October 21.
He pointed out that the high sales reflect people's interest in the exhibition and its significance because the prices are low and range from QR8 to QR15 per kg, depending on the type of date purchased.

The Director of the Agricultural Affairs Department at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) Yousuf Khalid Al Khulaifi stated that 100 rooms have been distributed among Qatari farms this year in order to dry the dates.
Al Khulaifi explained that these rooms can speed up the drying process and improve the quality of these local dates, offering a significant advantage in comparison to traditional methods.
He also stated that the Ministry is awaiting the outcomes of the rooms for drying dates in the farms before distributing further rooms.
Today marks the last for the exhibition being held at Souq Waqif, with visitors being able to purchase a variety of fresh and local dates at affordable prices from 3 pm to 10 pm.
