With more than 85 years of continuous existence in Qatar, TotalEnergies (formerly known as Total), is continuing to display its presence among Qatar’s multinational entities with commitments to give back to society and support Qatar’s development.
TotalEnergies has been at the forefront of many leading initiatives in Qatar, playing active roles in sports, culture, and education.
In sports, the Company has been the title sponsor of the award-winning Qatar Ladies Open for the past two decades. It recently added one of the world's fastest-growing sports, Padel, to its growing portfolio through its sponsorship of the recently concluded 2021 World Padel Championship hosted by Qatar.
TotalEnergies’ foray into education includes the establishment of the "Qatar TotalEnergies Playground" at the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ), in cooperation with Qatar Museum. It has also partnered with several educational institutions in the country where it sponsors seminars, workshops and lectures on various topics of interest, especially in the energy sector.
"Sustainability is at the core of our strategy and operations in TotalEnergies, and our CSR initiatives remains firm. Qatar is our home, and we consider ourselves a major stakeholder and a partner in the development of the country," said Matthieu Bouyer, Managing Director TotalEnergies EP Qatar, and Country Chair, told Qatar Living recently.

The Qatar TotalEnergies Playground project, first announced in 2019, is designed by Taylor Cullity Lethlean (TCL), and it will open its doors to the public by September 2022.
"The Playground is a first of its kind in the region. We believe that learning should be fun and that entertainment can be combined with education in a relaxing atmosphere. This playground will promote a necessary and crucial conversation about energy across all generations - to understand our energy's past and future. More than just a playground, this experience will allow children to learn about Qatar's sustainability efforts and to better understand domains such as solar, LNG, electricity, carbon capture, plastic recycling." Bouyer said.
The Company has also invested massively in human capital development. It regularly organizes a series of training courses for students as well as sponsors students to promote research across a different spectrum of education endeavours in Qatar through its ‘Tamkeen’ Empowerment Programme.
Its TotalEnergies Research Center – Qatar (TCR-Q), a state-of-the-art R&D centre established in 2009 to provide contract research services on behalf of the local oil and gas industry, has continued to facilitate the transfer of innovations developed at the company's head offices, thanks to its proximity to TotalEnergies teams working on projects in Qatar, whether as an operator or a partner.
"TotalEnergies has continually supported the Qatar National Vision 2030, and we are in alignment with the country's goal of transforming into a knowledge-based economy. Qatar is immensely blessed with massive human and natural capital, and we believe in its sustainable development strategies," Bouyer added.
Recently, TotalEnergies and Qatari Autism Society started a new collaboration to support members with autism through organizing more socially- inclusive events.
This partnership was kickstarted through customized visits for the Society members and their families to discover 'Mal Awal' and other cultural exhibitions at the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ). These exhibitions shed light on the nation's rich heritage and culture and provide a vibrant and immersive space so that diverse communities can come together and experience Qatar's past, present and future.

"Our partnership with Qatar Autism Society has been very successful, and we are delighted to do our part to help youth discover Qatar's rich culture through NMoQ's exhibitions, which are dedicated to telling the unique story of Qatar's heritage and its people. The initiative is part of our strong CSR program that promotes youth inclusion but also education, culture, biodiversity and sport, and we are grateful to all the partners for making it happen," the Company's country chair added.
Bouyer noted that the company aims to continue to strengthen the partnership between the government and other stakeholders in the country to implement more initiatives.
"A business that is committed to improving the world is likely to attract more talent. This is our vision at TotalEnergies, and we aim to continue to actively and positively engage with the community as we maintain our industry leadership role," said Bouyer.
Active in more than 130 countries, including Qatar, TotalEnergies puts sustainable development in all its dimensions at the heart of its strategy, projects and operations to contribute to the well-being of people.
