Qatar and Turkey have always stood by each other through thick and thin.

The two nations enjoy strong bilateral ties cemented over the years through strategic collaboration in several fields.

Qatar was quick to express its solidarity with the brotherly nation of Turkey following a powerful earthquake that struck western Turkey on Friday.

In a call with the Turkish President, His Highness the Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani offered condolences to the victims and wished for the speedy recovery of those injured in the natural disaster.

In light of this, the Turkish ambassador to Qatar, Mehmet Mustafa Göksu appreciated the support from the Qatari government and its people.

The ambassador said he had “received many calls from Qatar officials and members of the public who have expressed their solidarity, and readiness to extend support and aid to Turkey.”

He mentioned that the Turkish government has been working to the best of its abilities to support its people and the situation is under control.

Ambassador Göksu also acknowledged HH the Amir’s call to the Turkish President, during which he expressed Qatar’s readiness to help alleviate the impact of the earthquake.

According to Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) the death toll from Friday's earthquake has reached 69, while over 900 are said to be injured.
