Smartphone technology company Uber has partnered with Qatar Charity by rolling out a one-day only "Spring Cleaning" campaign, offering users in Doha a quick and convenient way to donate their unwanted clothing.

This Saturday, May 2, Uber users will be able to open the app and request the ‘GIVE’ option between 10 AM and 4 PM.

Within minutes, an Uber car will arrive to carry off the items and donate them to a Qatar Charity location on the users’ behalf.

The on-demand service will be completely free of charge.

For donations to be accepted, all items must be bagged and brought out to the drivers when they arrive at the destination.

Qatar Charity is dedicated to providing vital support to orphans, vulnerable families and people with special needs

This campaign is part of a global Uber initiative in which multiple cities have partnered with local not for profit organisations to match the power of donating with the convenience of ordering a ride via a mobile device.

Commenting on the initiative, Majed Abukhater, Uber Doha, GM said:

"Qatar Charity’s work with at-risk communities all over the world is truly admirable, and a partnership with them speaks to thecore values of Uber.

"We’re always looking for inventive ways to utilize our core service –transportation powered by technology – in ways that have a positive effect on our local community.

"In advance of the charity drive this weekend, we are grateful to all those- donors and drivers- who participate in the initiative."
