Ever since the siege of Qatar began nine months ago, there has been a spate of false news being published in certain sections of the media.
The latest such news to do the rounds was that the USA was considering moving their airbases in Al Udeid, Qatar, and Turkey to elsewhere.
However, the US Central Command has categorically denied the fake reports and blasted the rumor mongers, reported The Peninsula.
Terming the reports as ‘false’ and ‘without any merit,’ the US Central Command confirmed they were not going anywhere.
“The US is not leaving Incirlik Air Base in Turkey, nor is the US leaving Al Udeid AB, Qatar. These reports are false and without merit,” it said on its official Twitter handle.
The US is not leaving Incirlik Air Base in Turkey, nor is the US leaving Al Udeid AB, Qatar. These reports are false and without merit.
Further rebutting the fake news, US Air Force Central Command said: “There is zero credibility to news reports asserting the US is leaving Incirlik and Al Udeid air bases in Turkey and Qatar. These unhelpful reports feed mistrust and division among regional partners at a time when we need to work together to address shared security concerns,” reported Gulf Times.
Al Udeid serves as one of the most important overseas US military bases with operations throughout the Middle East launched from Qatar.
Quite contrary to the fake news, Qatar had announced in January that they were in the process of expanding the American airbase that currently houses about 10,000 US military personnel.
The expansion would allow for 200 more housing units for officers and their families.
