As a part of the Qatar National Sport Day 2022 celebration, Shift Group of Companies along with Qatar First Bank (QFB) and Mondrian Doha commemorated the day at Doha Sports Park, Lusail. The event was attended by employees of all three companies along with families and kids. The venue was marked with several fitness zones that offered a wide range of activities for adults and kids throughout the day.

All attendees were required to undergo registration and there was free breakfast and hot drinks sponsored by Mondrian Doha for the event. Kids were also provided with goodie bags to keep them engaged.

The event kick-started off at 9.30 am with welcome remarks and a warm-up exercise session for adults. This was followed up by high-power Zumba and aerobics workouts too.

The kids were also encouraged to join a warm-up dance in the pink zone designated for children.

There were simultaneous matches also going on at the volleyball and football area as the registered teams geared up for friendly, competitive matches.

Sports Day is incomplete without its set of races and that was definitely something to watch out for. The marathon area in the park was set up to host a set of baton relay races that had everyone cheering for their favorite team groups. The race was exciting and showed friendly camaraderie among the participants.

The kids’ zone was also quite happening with a lot of fun activities and games for the little tots. There were 100-meter dash races and ping-pong ball races organized by the energetic volunteers from QFB.

There were many whimsical, fun games also held for adults such as pop-the-balloon, cookie monster, defy-gravity, and last man standing: all of which were fun and really cool to watch.

The kids definitely had a gala time at the open play inflatables which had them truly jump up and down to their hearts’ content.

There was a station for face painting being done by a special artist for the children, so the little ones waited eagerly to get their faces and hands painted in their favorite designs and cartoon characters.

Another volunteer set up a balloon twisting station where she contorted colorful balloons into fun shapes and animals, much to the kids’ delight.

The children also enjoyed getting their share of free popcorn and cotton candy from a kiosk set up by Sara Paint Party

There was another session for adults to do some calming yoga poses and cool down before everyone finally settled for lunch.

Post-lunch, all the attendees gathered around at the front for a chance to win in the exciting raffle draw. The numbers were drawn at random and corresponded to the registration band numbers on everyone’s wrists. The lucky winners won cash prizes and different vouchers for dining at Mondrian Hotel’s restaurants.

Prizes were also given out to the teams that won the baton relay races, marathons, football, and volleyball matches.

The entire event embodied the true spirit of Qatar National Sport Day. Mr. Abdulrahman Tatonji, the CEO of Qatar First Bank expressed his gratitude at being to celebrate Sport Day as a full team this year. “We are truly blessed to be in a country that values health and wellness and promotes sports and celebrates it by having a public holiday for it.”

Mikel Ibrahim, the General Manager and Regional VP of Sales and Marketing (Middle East) for Mondrian Doha quoted, “ This year, Mondrian Doha collaborated with Qatar First Bank to host an open day for employees and their families for a day full of fun activities and fitness sessions. Options including football, marathon, yoga, and Zumba. All Mondrian Doha’s F&B outlets participated to provide healthy meals for the participants.”

He further added that the day helped invigorate their employees and encouraged everyone to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Joy Alvarez, the CEO of Shift Group commented, “It is refreshing to see that members of these companies enjoyed the day and the activities prepared for them. It is also worth mentioning that this effort of Qatar to give a day and celebrate sports and put importance to health is something to emulate in other parts of the world.”
