Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q) offered a series of webinars and certificate programs to promote healthcare research capacity in the State of Qatar.

Biostatistics for Healthcare Practitioners Live Webinar Series and the Certificate in the Analysis of Medical Data courses are some of the recent courses offered by the Division of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) at WCM-Q.

All of the events were accredited locally by the Ministry of Public Health’s Department of Healthcare Professions – Accreditation Section and internationally by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).

Both offerings were presented by biostatistics expert Dr. Ziyad Mahfoud, Associate Professor of Healthcare Policy and Research, and were available to access remotely via online platforms.

The research methods training sessions provided by the CPD division aim to give physicians, nurses, dentists, pharmacists, allied health practitioners, and other healthcare professionals, researchers, educators, and students a solid grounding in biostatistics to allow them to analyze, interpret and draw conclusions from the medical data they use in their research projects.

Participants in the events learned how to use linear and logistic regressions to examine the relationships between variables, test for interaction in regression, assess confounding in regression, and use confidence intervals to draw inferences in research studies.

According to Dr. Mahfoud, these courses provide valuable information for professional healthcare workers as it provides essential skills required to interpret data collected for research.

In addition to improving their career development, it will also enable them to make extremely valuable contributions to the body of medical research in many different areas, which ultimately has the potential to enhance patient care and health outcomes.
