Replacing lost identification documents can be a pain in the neck. You won't expect it to happen but when it happens it happens.
In today's edition of QL Flashback Fridays, we remind QLers of what to do in case they find themselves in this unfortunate situation.
The following steps particularly apply to those under a Family visa. However, the procedure for replacing a lost residency card (Qatar ID) is almost similar across all visa types.
1. Take a copy of the lost Qatar ID (if available) and your original passport. If you do not have a copy of the lost ID, you will at least need the Qatar ID numbers. You may want to also keep a passport photo handy, in case asked.
2. Head over to one of the Immigration Service Center in Gharrafa (Entrance 2 - Residence section) during morning hours, between 7 am and ideally before noon. Apparently, they do not process lost Qatar IDs in the afternoon. SURPRISE!!
3. Take a token for the lost ID category from the issuing counter at the reception. In a while, you will be summoned to the "Lost ID" counter.
4. Go to the counter and show the documents asked for.
5. You will be charged QAR200 for replacing a Qatar ID. They don't accept cash so you will need a debit/credit card.
Your new ID will be issued within a few minutes.
Another way to go about this is that you register for a lost/damaged card in the Metrash2 app and follow the instructions.
While it may be a scary moment to lose your original QID, authorities have eased the process of getting a new one over the years.
