Doha Film Institute will kick off the second edition of Ajyal Youth Film tomorrow at Katara Cultural Village.

Driven with the goal to inspire and create, Ajyal has been trying to empower the region's youth and to inspire film enthusiasts of all ages in Qatar and the region.

The festival will be held till December 6 and will screen 90 films that was produced in 43 different countries. Out of these, 20 films come under the Made in Qatar category.

Family Weekend

Visitors can even star in their own films at the Ajyal Studio. Live performances by local youths and international talents will serve as a colorful showcase on Doha's cultural diversity.

All family weekend activities will be held over Dec. 5 and 6 at the Family Village of Katara Esplanade. Entry is free for the public.

The Sandbox

Hands-on access to the latest gadgets and widgets used in filmmaking, gaming - The Sandbox will feature futuristic installations, educational games, applications in an interactive playground that fosters creativity and tech-skills.

Conversations with directors, filmmakers and screenwriters

Meet Roger Allers, the director of Disney's magnificent classic, 'The Lion King", whose newest film 'Kahlil Gibran's the Prophet' is the closing gala of the second Ajyal Youth Film Festival.

One of the world's greatest animation film directors and screenwriters, Allers, will discuss the secrets of the art of animation with fellow animator Mohammed Saeed Harib, the creator of the Gulf television phenomenon, Freej.

Photography Exhibition

The Ajyal photography exhibition, to be held from Dec. 2 to 6 at Katara Building 19, will trace the origin of cinematography with two galleries dedicated to the art of the photography.

The first will present a collection of antique cameras and an exhibition of works by 10 Doha-based photographers and the second gallery will be dedicated to strengthening the dialogue and fostering photographic excellence through interaction with photography club members and amateurs.

Cosplay competition

Dress up as a character from one of the listed categories and turn up at Katara Cultural Village in their costume.

The competition will take place on Friday, Dec. 5 from 2pm to 3:30pm.

DFI has promised that this year's festival will be different from last year, where there will be many free screenings and activities to participate in.
