Qatar Airways warns passengers against fraud accounts impersonating it on social media

Qatar Airways issued an important safety alert to passengers after detecting fraudulent social media accounts impersonating the airline and attempting to solicit personal and financial information.

In a statement shared on its official X account, the Doha-based carrier said it is ‘aware of fraudulent accounts impersonating Qatar Airways and requesting personal information.’

The airline stressed that it will never ask customers for passwords, one-time passcodes (OTPs), banking details or other sensitive information via social media platforms or direct messages.

‘Please interact only with our verified official channels: qatarairways.com or the Qatar Airways App,’ the airline said, directing passengers to use only its official website and mobile application for bookings, customer support and account-related queries.

The warning comes amid a global rise in online scams targeting air travellers, with fraudsters increasingly using fake profiles, lookalike handles and spoofed customer service accounts to trick users into sharing login credentials, payment details and identification documents.

Qatar Airways did not specify the number of reports received or the platforms most affected, but urged customers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity immediately.

The airline reiterated that all legitimate communications regarding bookings, promotions and account security will be sent through its official domains, verified social channels or the Qatar Airways App.
