Qatar ranked second globally in telecom health

Qatar has emerged as the world’s second‑healthiest telecom market, behind only the UAE, according to the inaugural Kearney Global Telecom Health Index, which assesses telecom sector performance and resilience across 34 markets.

The index expands Kearney’s 2025 European Telecom Health Index into a global benchmark by adding 14 markets, including Qatar and the UAE, to the original panel of 20 European markets.

Kearney evaluated telecom markets across five dimensions - financial performance, commercial ability, technology deployment, business environment, and customer sentiment - using 20 metrics based on proprietary Kearney data, primary consumer research, and trusted third‑party sources.

Qatar’s second‑place ranking reflects what Kearney describes as a ‘virtuous cycle’ in telecom markets, where a limited number of national operators can coordinate investment effectively, resulting in high‑quality networks and stronger customer satisfaction. These outcomes, in turn, generate financial returns that support further investment.

Qatar has two national mobile operators and ranks among the top five markets globally for technology deployment, while placing second worldwide for customer sentiment. The findings also challenge the assumption that telecom‑sector health is primarily determined by a country’s size or wealth.

The US, for example, has high GDP per capita but is held back by weak customer satisfaction and mixed financial returns, despite widely available fibre and 5G. South Korea and Singapore, both technologically advanced, sit only in the second quartile of the index, held back by customer satisfaction and returns that fall short of expectations.

Rather than advocating a single model, the research highlights the importance of creating market conditions that encourage sustained investment and better customer outcomes.
