Qatar wins IAEA’s global ‘Myth Smashers’ scientific competition

Qatar secured first place globally at the high-school level in the ‘Myth Smashers’ science and technology competition, held in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency under the theme ‘Busting Myths in Nuclear Science.’

Qatar was represented by Um Hakeem Secondary School for Girls students Fatima Al-Badr, Zainab Omar and Sirine Amr.

The results were announced during the Regional Meeting of Science and Technology Project Coordinators with the IAEA in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Qatar’s Ministry of Education and Higher Education credited the achievement to the students’ efforts, the Ministry’s Science and Computer Technology supervisors, and the school’s Chemistry and Information Technology teachers.

MoEHE said the result demonstrates Qatari students’ ability to apply scientific knowledge through research, inquiry and innovation to address contemporary scientific challenges.

It also reflects the Ministry’s work to support high-achieving students and strengthen science, technology, research and innovation through an educational environment that enables practical application of knowledge and skills.

The Ministry described the honour as a valuable addition to Qatar’s student-achievement record, highlighting the education system’s quality and students’ capacity to compete internationally.

It said such achievements help build a skilled, knowledgeable, and confident generation that can support a knowledge-based economy and Qatar’s vision of an innovative, sustainable future.
