Qatar Basketball Federation will organise a three-team international friendly tournament featuring Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Bahrain at Al Janoub Stadium from August 20 to 22.
The tournament forms part of preparations for upcoming international competitions, including the Asian qualifiers for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup and the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games.
Qatar will open its campaign against Bahrain on August 20, followed by Bahrain against Saudi Arabia on August 21. The tournament will conclude with Qatar facing Saudi Arabia on August 22.
The federation said the tournament comes at an important stage of Qatar’s preparations, providing the coaching staff with a series of closely scheduled matches to assess players’ technical and physical readiness, improve team cohesion and test different options and line-ups ahead of official competition.
Following the tournament, Qatar will begin the fourth window of the Asian qualifiers for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
The national team will face China in Doha on August 27 before travelling to play Japan on August 30.
The friendly tournament will also provide an opportunity to test Al Janoub Stadium after its conversion and preparation to host basketball matches.
The venue will be assessed across areas including the playing surface, facilities and operational and organisational arrangements ahead of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
The 2027 tournament will be staged for the first time in the Middle East and North Africa, with matches set to take place at venues including Lusail, Al Duhail, Ali Bin Hamad Al Attiyah Arena and Al Janoub Stadium.
