Kuwait's Amir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber has died at age 91, Kuwait News Agency announced yesterday evening.
Sheikh Sabah had been the leader of Kuwait since 2006 and had served as the country's foreign minister for almost 40 years from 1963 - 2003 before becoming the prime minister.
The Amiri Diwan announced that absentee funeral prayer (Salat al-Gha'ib in Arabic) will be performed for the late HH Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber in all the mosques in Qatar tonight after the evening prayer (Isha).

This comes as a tremendous loss for Qatar and its people that have always held Sheikh Sabah in high regard and appreciated his consistent efforts to ensure peace and stability in the Gulf region.

HH the Amir of Qatar yesterday declared a three-day mourning period in Qatar and ordered flags to be at half-mast.
