Qatar Foundation (QF) member Al Shaqab has announced the launch of the fourth season of the Al Shaqab Equestrian League on October 16 and 17 at the Longines Indoor Arena in Al Shaqab, with the participation of riders of various age groups and technical levels, as part of its efforts to develop equestrian sports in the State of Qatar and prepare a generation of riders capable of competing in international championships.
The league is part of Al Shaqab's efforts to discover promising talents and hone the skills of riders by providing an integrated competitive environment that allows them to gain experience, develop their technical abilities, and move from the preliminaries to advanced levels, which contributes to strengthening the base of riders qualified to represent the State of Qatar in international forums.
The fourth season includes five rounds, the first on October 16 and 17, the second round on November 13 and 14, the third on December 11 and 12, 2026, and the fourth round on April 30 and May 1, 2027, before concluding the season with the fifth round on May 14 and 15, 2027.
The league competitions include eight categories suitable for different ages and technical levels, starting with the first preliminary category at a height of 40 cm for riders up to the age of 12, the second preliminary category at a height of 60 cm for riders up to the age of 18, and the third preliminary category at a height of 80 cm for riders up to the age of 21.
The competitions also include the Amateur category at a height of 100 to 110 cm, the Future Champions category at a height of 110 to 120 cm for riders up to the age of 16, the Junior Champions category at a height of between 120 and 130 cm for riders up to the age of 18, the Youth Champions category at a height of 130 to 140 cm for riders up to the age of 25, and the Al Shaqab Champions category, which represents the highest level of competition in the league, and is held at a height of 135 and 145 cm, which is a class open to all riders.
The fourth season will witness an evolution in the team competition system, where the Al Shaqab Champions category will replace the amateur category that participated in last season's competitions, in a move aimed at raising the technical level and enhancing the competition between the participating teams.
The team competitions will witness the participation of 12 teams, each consisting of four riders representing the categories of Al Shaqab Champions, Youth Champions, Junior Champions and Future Champions, with the team being led by Al Shaqab Champions Champions.
The team system aims to foster the spirit of cooperation and exchange of experiences between riders of different age groups and technical levels, and to provide the opportunity for younger riders to benefit from participation alongside more experienced riders, thus contributing to developing their abilities and enhancing their readiness for advanced competitions.
Through the Al Shaqab League and its training and competitive programs, Al Shaqab continues to support the development of equestrian sports in the State of Qatar by providing regular opportunities to compete and gain experience, and preparing a new generation of riders qualified to participate in regional and international championships, thereby enhancing Qatari equestrianism's status and presence on the global stage.
