The Public Works Authority, Ashghal, has announced the start of work on the first package of the roads and infrastructure development project in Izghawa and Al Themaid.

The project has a total cost of around QAR 688mn and forms part of Ashghal’s ongoing efforts to develop infrastructure and provide integrated services across Qatar.

Eng Abdullah Al Nuaimi, Head of Northern Areas Section at the Roads Projects Department, said the Izghawa and Al Themaid project represents an important investment in modern and sustainable infrastructure.

He said the project will support population and urban growth in the two areas and improve the quality of services provided to residents.

The works include developing internal streets, enhancing road safety, and implementing and upgrading infrastructure facilities to meet current and future needs.

Eng Talal Al Mughaiseeb, Roads Engineering Specialist at the Roads Projects Department, said the project will provide integrated services for 669 residential plots for citizens and several service facilities in the two areas.

He added that the project will also support future population expansion and commercial projects currently under development.

The project includes the construction of a modern internal road network to improve traffic flow and provide connectivity with main roads and public facilities.

It will also provide advanced infrastructure services, including sewage networks, stormwater and surface water drainage networks, and other related services.

The first package of the roads and infrastructure development project in Izghawa and Al Themaid includes the construction and development of a 27km road network.

It also includes 50km of pedestrian and cycling paths, along with traffic safety elements, directional signs, road markings, 856 streetlight poles, and 3,890 parking spaces.

Infrastructure works include a 39km stormwater drainage network, an 18km treated water network for irrigating green areas, and 23km of sewage network lines.

The geographical scope of the first package is located on the north-western edge of Doha and covers a total area of around 2,710,000 square metres.

The project has been divided into four geographical zones before the start of implementation, with work to be carried out in each area successively.

Ashghal said this approach aims to speed up completion and reduce the impact of construction works on the area.
