Qatar's generosity and compassion have been well known to its citizens and residents.

However, in today's testing times, the country has really upped its efforts to extend a helping hand to those in need, locally as well as internationally.

Earlier, when the country announced the closure of some streets of the Industrial Area, it confirmed that this will not affect the daily needs of the residents living there. Through a joint effort by their companies and local authorities, the country would ensure the daily needs of the workers are satisfied including payment of salaries in a timely manner.

In addition to several other praiseworthy initiatives that have been introduced during the COVID-19 situation, Doha Bank donated QR2 million to Qatar Charity (QC) for a project to support migrant workers in the Industrial Area.

Recently, QC revealed that in coordination with the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) and the support of other authorities and benefactors it has been running its "Khair Kitchens" initiative, under which the organization provides 6000 meals to workers in the Industrial Area and the Quarantine Center in Mukaynis daily.

Now, the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has announced that with the support of Hifz Al Naema, it will give out food baskets to at least 1035 needy families for three months, starting from April 14, 2020.

Hifz Al Naema, which translates as ‘protecting the blessings,’ was established over a decade ago as a community initiative. The organization runs Qatar's first food bank in addition to managing a charitable warehouse where it stocks excess donations received from generous citizens and residents.

The center collected food from social events but due to the current scenario, it had been unable to do so.

However, Awqaf's support has meant the center is able to extend its services to needy families.

Awqaf through the Waqf Fund for family and childhood care has joined hands with Hifz Al Naema to continue supporting families that were benefitting from the center.

Director of the General Directorate of Awqaf, Dr Sheikh Khalid bin Mohamed Al Thani said the initiative is represented by the General Department of Endowments as part of efforts to fight COVID-19 by providing 3,015 food baskets of various items to the needy families.

Public Relations Officer at Hifz Al Naema, Yousef Abdullah Al Khulaifi, commented that the project seeks to encourage acts of goodness, particularly in light of the current pandemic as there is increased need.

Meanwhile, health authorities in the country continue to implement the highest level of monitoring, detection, and management procedures to deal with the virus, the public has been advised to follow certain measures to safeguard their health.
